Text Input
An editable text field that reads and writes a tag on commit.
In Studio
In Studio, double-click Text Input in the Components category of the Components panel. It is added to the open view, where you can drag it into place.
When to use
Use Text Input for an operator-entered string or number where a Slider's draggable range does not fit — a setpoint typed as a number, a free-text field.
Properties
| Property | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Value | String | (none) | Legacy write target, used only when the component has no value binding — same contract as Button's value field. |
| Label | String | Value | The caption shown above the field. |
| Placeholder | String | Enter value... | Placeholder text shown when the field is empty and not focused. |
| Requires Signature | false, true | false | Same contract as Button's Requires Signature — defers the write to the electronic-signature dialog. |
| Input Type | text, number | text | text (default) accepts any entry. number makes it a numeric entry field: an entry that is not a number is refused — nothing is written and the field shows an error — even when no Min Value or Max Value is set. Setting either limit also makes the field numeric. |
| Min Value | String | (none) | The lowest number an operator may enter. Blank means no lower limit. Setting either Min Value or Max Value makes the field numeric: an entry that is not a number is refused. Can be bound, for example to a limit held in the PLC; while a bound limit cannot be read, every entry is refused and the field says "Limit not available — try again". |
| Max Value | String | (none) | The highest number an operator may enter. Blank means no upper limit. Same rules as Min Value. |
| Decimals | String | (none) | Rounds an accepted entry to this many decimal places before it is written (0 to 10). Blank means no rounding. Only applies when Min Value or Max Value is set. |
| Format | String | (none) | How a number-mode field shows its value while it is not being edited, as a number pattern such as 0,0.## (3.5999999 shows as 3.6, 1234.5 as 1,234.5). Blank shows the value as-is, or rounded to Decimals if that is set. Editing always shows the full value. Bindable. |
| Out Of Range | refuse, clamp | refuse | What happens to an entry outside the limits. refuse (the default) writes nothing and shows the allowed range, for example "Must be 0–100"; clamp writes the nearest limit instead. |
| Field Style | auto, well, compact, underline | auto | How the field is drawn: auto (default), well, compact or underline. well is a filled, taller field, compact is the classic small bordered field, and underline is a line under the text. auto is well in a Daylight project and compact otherwise. |
| On-Screen Keyboard | auto, numeric, full, off | auto | The on-screen keypad for this field: auto (default), numeric, full or off. auto follows the project's On-Screen Keyboard setting, which opens the keypad only where there is no physical keyboard (a touch screen or Lens) and is off on a desktop browser. A project that does not use the Daylight look has that setting off unless it is set. numeric or full force that keypad here and off disables it for this field. |
| Unit | String | (none) | The unit shown on the numeric keypad. Blank uses the engineering unit of the tag the field writes to. |
Binding
Click Bind… on the Value property and bind it to a tag or an expression to drive the live value.
To let an operator change the tag from this component, tick Bidirectional (read-write) on the binding. Without it the component only displays the value.
Writes on blur or Enter, not on every keystroke — the field shows the live tag value while unfocused and a local edit buffer while focused, and Escape discards the edit.
