Version 2026.20

Valve

A smart-object symbol showing a two-port valve's Closed / Open / Fault state, with optional partial-travel position.

In Studio

In Studio, double-click Valve in the Symbols category of the Components panel. It is added to the open view, where you can drag it into place.

When to use

Use Valve for a standard on/off or throttling valve. For a valve with three or four connected ports, use Multi-Port Valve instead.

Properties

PropertyTypeDefaultDescription
ValueString(none)The bound state value — same contract as Motor's Value (Closed instead of Stopped, Open instead of Running).
Symbol Typesimple, pnid, mimicsimpleThe drawing variant: simple (flanged body), pnid (ISA hourglass bowtie), or mimic (globe body with bonnet and gland).
LabelStringValveThe caption shown below the symbol.
Show Captiontrue, falsetrueShows or hides the caption (the name and state word) under the symbol. Off also gives that height back to the drawing — use it when a separate label template sits beside the symbol.
Position %String(none)Optional percent-open feedback (0–100). When bound, the body fills progressively as it strokes rather than snapping between fully open and fully closed; when left unbound, the valve simply shows fully open or fully closed based on Value alone.
Orientationup, right, down, leftupWhich way the outlet points: up (as drawn, default), right, down, or left.
Closed ColorColor#808080The body color while Closed. Defaults to the HMI palette's stopped-state color.
Open ColorColor#FFFFFFThe body color while Open. Defaults to the HMI palette's running-state color.
Fault ColorColor#E12D39The body color while Fault. Defaults to the HMI palette's priority-1 alarm color.

Binding

Click Bind… on the Value property and bind it to a tag or an expression to drive the live value.

This binding is read-only — the component never writes to the tag.

Position is a separate read-only binding for travel feedback — see that field.

Mid-travel state

A valve actively stroking (Position between 0 and 100, not matching Value's own Closed/Open state) shows the caption "MOVING" rather than a fourth color — the partial fill on the body is what carries the in-between state, per the HMI colour standard's rule against inventing a color for a normal transition.
